How it works

How it works

Why rent jackets instead of buying them?

We want to create a more mindful relationship with clothing and space for rethinking.

The special thing about our model is that each jacket becomes the living history of a common good through the individual traces and embroidery of the wearer. The jacket is therefore not just a piece of clothing, but also a social catalyst. When people wear the jacket and talk about the project, new encounters and conversations are created - we contribute to bringing us closer together as a society. Sharing becomes a conscious act of connection and solidarity.

By sharing fashion instead of owning it, we enable resource-conserving use and make high-quality clothing accessible to a wider community. This kind of sharing challenges current patterns of consumption and creates space for a new culture of dialog about community, ownership and the future. In this way, shared fashion becomes a symbol of caring, networking and a shared vision for a more sustainable way of living together.

Common Goods Promise

  1. Wear the jacket as often as possible.

  2. We observe the ageing process and the change in value of the jackets based on the signs of wear and tear.

  3. Immortalize yourself on the jacket.

  4. Embroider your initials, first name or signature on the jacket label and sign the logbook to show who has worn the jacket.

  5. Do not wash the jacket.

  6. Instead, place the jacket in the freezer for 24 hours. The low temperatures combat odor-causing bacteria. Not washing significantly reduces water and energy consumption and the indigo coloring of the jacket stays beautiful for longer.

  7. Sharing is caring.

  8. Treat the jacket in such a way that you can safely send it on to the next person.

  9. Tell your friends about the project.

  10. Expand the Common Goods community by telling people about our project. The QR code on the inside of the jacket leads to the website. Tag us on social media @commongoods.ch with #commongoodsjackets and other hashtags like #indigoblue #sharingiscaring #jacketlovers.

Is the jacket heavily soiled or broken? Do you have questions about the project?

How it works:

  1. Go to the website

  2. Select your favorite jacket (note the size - not all jackets are available in all sizes)

  3. Select the rental period (add the desired months (maximum 3) to the shopping cart)

  4. “Support us” by adding a scarf to the shopping cart (this will then be yours ☺)

  5. Pay online via Twint or bank transfer

  6. Wait for the post, unpack the jacket, keep the packaging

  7. Enjoy the jacket and wear it, wear it, wear it!

  8. Embroider your initials or first name on the jacket during the rental period

  9. 3 days before the end of the rental period, you will receive a reminder and the postal code with the new address

  10. Store the jacket in the freezer for the last 3 days. (this will remove any odors from the jacket)

  11. Print out the postal code and stick it on the cardboard box

  12. Say goodbye to the jacket and pack it the way you would like to receive it

  13. Take it to the post office

  14. Start the cycle all over again
